The conductor and the driver of a Colombo-bound SLTB bus belonging to Kebithigollewa Depot were arrested on suspicion of transporting 10.5 kilos of venison. The stock of venison was found in three boxes, and the bus was seized.
The officers of Ethakada Police who lay in ambush at Ethakada junction on a tip-off from the public had arrested the two suspects.
One of them was from Kebithigollewa while the other from Pesalai and was about 48 years of age.
The police had taken steps to inform Kebithigollewa SLTB Depot and made arrangements for the passengers to continue their journey by another bus.
The suspects were to be produced in court yesterday.
