The Election Commission has decided to proceed with legal action against a candidate and political parties that failed to submit their campaign finance reports within the stipulated time after the results of the presidential election were announced, an official said yesterday .
According to the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act, such reports should be submitted separately by the candidates and their parties . In case of independent contests, candidates concerned and voters who certified their nomination in terms of the law should put forward reports separately.
The law stipulates that it should be done within 21 days after declaration of results of the election concerned .
The Commission has now decided to proceed with legal action against one candidate , four parties and three persons who certified nomination of their candidates . As per the law, the Commission will lodge the complaint in this regard with the police first . Only the police will file action in the High Court afterwards.
The Commission has now taken a formal decision in this regard .
