The obstruction caused to the Colombo - Hatton main highway by an earth slip at Kalugala in Ginigathhena on Friday (09) had been cleared by last evening to enable traffic to operate on one lane.
Asst.Director Nuwara Eliya Disaster Management Centre Ranjith Alahakoon said the employees of the Kegalle and Norwood Road Development Authority Divisions and of the Polpitiya Hydropower Complex cleared the mound of earth and the huge rocks obstructing the road and opened one lane. Police had taken steps to divert traffic though alternative routes avoiding the affected area. The occupants of several houses and business establishments in the endangered area were evacuated by the Disaster Management Centre.
