CID together with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Australian Federal Police (AFP) are currently conducting an international probe on the Easter Sunday attacks, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera told Parliament yesterday.
Minister Weerasekera who made a special statement in the House responding to remarks made by outgoing Attorney General Dappula De Livera that CID investigations on Easter Sunday attacks are not completed, said this kind of investigations will take time.
“Kalid Sheid Mohammed who has been identified as the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks is yet to be tried while it took few years for India to take action against the killers of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It took three years to file legal action against the killers of late Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and to take legal action against the attackers of Dalada Maligawa. Time is taken for these kind of investigations as the wrong doers cannot be allowed to escape through loop holes with regard to evidence,” the Minister said.
