The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has confirmed that the Education Ministry’s website was hacked by a local individual on April 4.
The Senior Information Security Engineer of SLCERT, Charuka Damunupola, stated that a report will be sent to the Education Minister regarding the hacking incident.
The findings of the hack will be forwarded to the Minister, who will then pass it on to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation to apprehend the culprit.
It was discovered that the Education Ministry’s website did not have necessary security patches and updates, and they had failed to conduct a Vulnerability Assessment (VA) as advised by SLCERT.
