All Ceylon Egg Producers’ Association have forecast that egg prices are expected to come down below Rs.25 after the month of May as production is currently in full swing.
This was revealed in a discussion held between the Agriculture Minister and representatives of the All Ceylon Egg Producers’ Association yesterday (13) ahead of the forthcoming festive season.
During the meeting, discussions centered on addressing the escalating costs of eggs. Presently, egg prices stand at Rs. 48, prompting concerns about accessibility for consumers.
Acknowledging the necessity to mitigate these costs, the Minister emphasized the need for a significant reduction, signaling the intention to enforce a control price.
In response, the Egg Producers’ Association indicated their willingness to cooperate by reducing prices, citing an observed downward trend in market rates.
However, Minister Amaraweera asserted that if producers fail to initiate necessary price adjustments, the government will intervene to impose a control price to ensure affordability for consumers ahead of the
festive season.
