According to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Act, the cabinet decision taken to implement the electricity tariff revision with effect from January 1 should not be amended in a way that affects the past, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said.
Addressing the media at a special media briefing held yesterday at the PUCSL office, its Chairman, Janaka Rathnayaka said according to the act, there is no possibility of making such a tarrif revision, and there is no possibility of making an interim tarrif adjustment.
A cabinet decision was announced today as a joint decision by the CEB and the PUCSL to implement the electricity tariff revision proposed by the CEB with effect from January 1 as an interim measure in accordance with the amendments to the Public Policy Guidelines currently in force, regarding the power industry.
According to the proposal received from the cabinet, the PUCSL will consider what measures it can take to provide the electricity needed to meet the demand.
