Englishman fined for growing ganja

An Englishman who pleaded guilty of growing ganja was fined Rs.5,000 yesterday by Galle Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela. 

The suspect Thimothy John Thomas (35) had been arrested by Hikkaduwa Police on intelligence received through the army in Boossa and produced in court. 


Police told court that the suspect living with his wife in a rented house in Milla area in Hikkaduwa had been growing ganja in flower pots and that he was in possession of 1.75 kilos of dry ganja and a stock of ten plants. 
Attorney-at-law Thushara De Silva appearing for the suspect submitted that the suspect was living in the house on rent without any knowledge of ganja plants growing in flower pots and the stock of dry ganja found in the house. He stated that the suspect pleaded guilty to end the case.
