The party formed by ex-LTTE militants is in the political amalgam that seeks to field a common Tamil presidential candidate at the upcoming elections, Daily Mirror learns.
The alliance called’ Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), is a political formation opposed to Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK). In addition to the party of former combatants, Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), Tamil Desai Party, Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) and People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) are among the other parties.
The DTNA leaders had a meeting on Monday to discuss the fielding of a common candidate without supporting any main candidate from the mainstream parties.
Initially, EPRLF led by former MP Suresh Premachandran mooted the idea of a common candidate.
