The examination which appointed and promoted those up to the present rank of Assistant Excise Commissioner is illegitimate, a former SJB MP said yesterday.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya Deputy General Secretary Mujibur Rahman told the media that even the Public Service Commission appeals inquiry authority has admitted that the examination was not legitimate and some of the excise officers have already gone to court against this matter.
Rahman said the PSC has inquired about the examination to find that it was not legal thus the legitimacy of the appointment of these Assistant Excise Commissioners is questionable.
“Since their appointment through this exam is illegitimate, it is questionable whether the permits and licences issued by these officials are legitimate.
According to the Inland Revenue Department, a sum of Rs.800 to 900 billion has to be earned as tax revenue but the lethargic and inactive nature of these officials question whether they are eligible for this post,” Rahman pointed out.
He said the present Excise Commissioner or the Finance Ministry Secretary should act on this situation immediately.
