Sri Lankan Government should expedite the implementation of the oil tank deal with India and should link up its ports to the Indian system, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.
Wickremesinghe who made these remarks during an interview with Indian Foundation, said Sri Lanka should also look at the sub regional block with five southern states. “We have had up and downs when it comes to relationship with India right from the time LTTE came in but ties have improved lately. We have agreed that both countries should not be a pest to each other. Sri Lanka has also decided that our relationship with China will not impact India,” said Wickremesinghe.
“Sri Lanka and India should be integrated. We can link Sri Lankan ports namely Colombo and Trincomalee with the Indian system. It should necessarily be government to government agreements. We have had long links when it comes to Buddhism. We look at your Bodh Gaya and you respect the Koneswaram Temple in Trincomalee. We look at the celebration of your Lata Mangeshkar and you look at Yohani” he added.
