The facial recognition camera system installed at the airport will soon feature photos of individuals involved in defrauding people’s money, Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon said.
“This measure aims to curb the migration of individuals associated with small financial companies that collect significant sums of money from investors,” he said at a press conference held at the Ministry of Public Security, highlighting the severity of financial fraud across the country.
He further said that within the next month, the police will include photos of individuals engaged in financial fraudulent activities into the facial recognition system based on complaints received.
“Once added to the system, these individuals will be unable to travel through the airport and will face arrest by Criminal Investigations officers at the airport,” Mr. Tennakoon said.
The Acting IGP said that the police have already compiled a list of over 1,000 criminals wanted for various crimes in the country and included their photos to the facial recognition camera system installed at the airport.
