Construction work of the first phase of the double flyover planned at the Justice Akbar Road and the Uttarananda Mawatha to solve traffic congestion in Colombo city is to be completed by June this year, Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday.
Minister Fernando said that concrete structures of the double flyovers were commenced to be transported from Sunday (13) and the work was in progress round the clock as per instructions by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to complete it by June this year.
The flyover being constructed at the Justice Akbar Road is 207 metres in length and 8.4 metres in width while the flyover being constructed at the Uttarananda Mawatha is 396 metres in length and 10.4 metres in width. The connecting flyover will be 310 meters in length and 6.9 metres in width. The total cost of flyovers will be constructed for a cost of Rs. 5270 million according to the minister.
