Five nabbed with smuggled ‘Ice’ worth Rs. 20Mn in Mannar

Five suspects have been arrested by the Special Task Force of Police (STF) with over one kilo of crystal methamphetamine, a narcotic called Ice in the normal jargon, which has a street value of over Rs. 20 million.

The STF said the narcotics had been smuggled into the country and the suspects were arrested during a raid in Pesalai, Mannar. 


The drugs together with the suspects aged between 33 and 45 were handed over to the Mannar Police for further investigations.


It was revealed that drug traffickers have been involved in smuggling narcotics across international maritime borders and distributing them to various parts of the island. The raid was conducted by the Organised Crimes Unit 2 of the STF under the supervision of ASP Kodithuwakku on the orders of STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara.
