Fmr UC Chairman Ravindu Wedaarachchi & his wife granted bail

Former Chairman of the Tangalle Urban Council Ravindu Wedaarachchi and his wife Nethmi Harindika Silva who were arrested in connection with obstructing duties of a police officer and alleged attempt of assault, were granted bail by the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court yesterday. 


Ravindu Wedaarachchi, the son of SJB MP Dilip Wedaarachchi and his wife were arrested on Monday after they surrendered to the Weeraketiya Police.  They were wanted by the police after a complaint was lodged with the Weeraketiya Police Station last week by a police sergeant attached to Expressway duties at the Bedigama interchange claiming that the MPs son had obstructed duties.  


According to the police, the former chairman had loaded a refrigerator in an unsafe manner into the back of a cab and was about to enter the expressway from the Bedigama interchange on Wednesday evening when a police sergeant on duty at the scene informed him that it was unsafe and dangerous and that he could not be allowed to enter.   


At that moment, the Chairman and his wife in the cab and turned abusive and interrupted the police sergeant’s duty  by abusing him in filthy language.  

A video of the incident was circulated on social media however the police were unsuccessful in apprehending the duo till they showed up at the Weeraketiya police station.  
Former chairman Ravindu had also earlier claimed that a police officer at the scene had pulled him by his shirt and tried to assault him.
