Foreign currency stolen from Mirissa Hotel

A thief had broken into an upstairs room of a tourist hotel in Mirissa where its owner had been asleep and stolen a briefcase containing local and foreign currency, Weligama Police said. 

 The hotel owner has gone to bed at about 8.30 pm on June 8 and only learned about the theft at 4.30 am when he woke up. 

 

The briefcase contained 6,000 Euros, US $ 4,000 dollars and Rs. 200,000. 


The owner aged 59 has lodged a complaint at the Weligama Police following which several police officers have traced the stolen briefcase on the main road during their investigation. However, the case has been found empty.
