Walkie-talkies, firearm siezed

A consultant and his three private security guards were arrested along with a firearm by the Haliela Police for conducting unauthorised psychological programme for students at a school in Haliela on Wednesday.
The Haliela Police has launched investigation following information that a counseling programme is being conducted for the students at the school and that the instructor who came for the purpose had arrived with a group of private security guards dressed in black and were carrying walkie-talkies and a firearm.
Investigations revealed that the official approval was not obtained from the zonal or provincial education authorities to carry out the programme.
It was also revealed that the consultant who conducted the programme was not qualified to conduct such programmes in any registered institution.
Police recovered three walkie-talkies, an air rifle and 129 bullets used for the air rifle from the possession of the three security guards who came with the instructor.
The arrested suspects, aged 36, 24, 23 and 30 and are residents of Chilaw, Ratmalana and Negombo were to be produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court. Meanwhile, police request the relevant authorities to refrain from inviting such persons into the school when dealing with school children.
