While criticizing the move by the government to summon those who voice their opinion on social media to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the United National Party (UNP) has decided to provide legal assistance to those who are affected by this move.
UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara told media that his party has allocated two lawyers Yasasiri de Silva and Navin Chanaka to provide legal assistance to those whose rights to express opinions have been violated. “Summoning those who voice their opinion on social media is a violation of the constitution. “Freedom of expression is guaranteed by the constitution and taking action against those who express themselves publicly is a violation of the constitution,” Mr. Range Bandara said.
