A novel method of creating awareness in rural areas on Covid-19 has been launched with the help of UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Backward Rural Areas Development and Promotion of Domestic Animal Husbandry and Minor Economic Crop Cultivation State Minister Sathasivam Viyalanderan said that all arrangements had been finalised to launch the programme.
State Minister Viyalanderan said the COVID-19 prevention video footage, posters and leaflets were officially handed over to the WHO representative for Sri Lanka Dr. Alkha Singh and UNICEF representative Christian Skoog during the event.
The State Minister said that this follows the successful discussions with Dr. Singh and Mr. SKoog.
The first and second waves of COVID-19 were successfully curbed and however the third wave has turned to be a challenge to the country and the Government has taken all possible efforts to curb it very soon, according to Viyalanderan. He said that efficient mechanisms have been drafted by the Government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the health sector officials were implementing all directions and instructions from the top to safeguard the citizens of this country from falling victim to this deadly pandemic.
Viyalanderan said nearly 75 per cent of the population in the country have already been administered with COVID-19 vaccine and expressed confidence that the vaccination drive can be completed before the end of this year.
