Colombo District Judge Aruna Aluthge yesterday ordered the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) to fix the Annual Executive Committee Election to another date after June 26.
The Judge ordered to postpone the election for a suitable day, taking into account the prevailing Covid-19 situation. The Judge also ordered the other petitioners not to intervene with Executive Committee member’s or their duties in office until the election is held.
The District Judge made these observation on inquiring into a petition filed in the District Court by some members of the GMOA to restrain the selecting committee chairman from holding the election of the GMOA to select new Executive Committee members.
The petitioners had cited the Chairman of the Selection Committee Dr. Maithree Chandana and ten others as respondents.
Two other intervening petitions were filed by Dr. Priyantha Atapattu who decreed that the election should be held to select new Executive Committee members to the office of the GMOA and another petition by Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara against the selection Committee.
It was also understood that the Director of Health Services had asked the Secretary of the GMOA to postpone the election for a suitable date due to the prevailing situation.
