Garbage collection in some parts of the Colombo City has been halted once again due to the shortage of fuel, a senior member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Mahendra de Silva told Daily Mirror yesterday.
De Silva who is a member of the CMC standing Committee on solid waste said garbage collection in the Gangarama area, Narahenpita, and Borella Dematagoda area have come to a standstill as the garbage collection trucks have run out of fuel.
“ The garbage collection is done by the CMC in these areas, unlike the other areas where a contract is given to a private company for the disposal of solid waste. This private contractor had managed to get enough stocks of fuel for its trucks,” he said.
This is the second time the garbage collection in Colombo City is being affected due to the fuel shortage. It was affected during the first week of March as well.
