Essential services including apparel, industries, agricultural activities will be allowed to operate and pharmacies will remain open during the quarantine curfew imposed last night, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.

He said the quarantine curfew imposed island-wide from 10 p.m. yesterday will continue till 4.a.m on August 30.
He said the decision was taken at the COVID-19 Task Force meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

During the curfew, the Army and the Health authorities will continue the vaccination programme for people over the age of 60, he said.

He said those who report to work can travel through the checkpoints producing their service IDs.
General Silva encouraged people to stay at home to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
