Instead of paying for fertiliser imported from China

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday questioned as to why the government would not use the funds which are to be spent for fertiliser imported from China to pay compensation to those who have been affected by gas explosions.

Making a special statement, Mr. Premadasa said compensation should be paid to families who have been affected by gas explosions. “There have been 600 instances of gas explosions during recent times,” Mr. Premadasa said.
“Government seemed to be keen on paying for the fertilizer imported from China but does not show such keenness to pay compensation to those who were affected by gas explosions. Is the government going to do something to help the family of the women who had died of a gas cylinder explosion recently?” he questioned.

“SJB will provide legal aid to those who were affected by gas explosions to seek compensation,” he also said. He requested those who were affected by the gas explosions to provide information to SJB headquarters in Kotte so that legal aid could be arranged.
