Government should decide on administering a third jab of COVID- 19 vaccine and prepare for the arrival of new variants such as Lambda and Epsilon, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday.
Speaking during the debate on COVID 19 Special Provisions Bill in the House. , Mr. Premadasa said Sri Lanka should soon decide on administering a third jab as available vaccines are strong enough to prevent the new variants.
“Countries such as Israel has already started administering the third jab and Sri Lanka should also follow through,” he said. He also suggested to launch a special fund for containing the pandemic by getting all MPs to sacrifice a portion of their salaries. “ We also like to propose setting targets for Sri Lankan missions aboard for foreign assistance and to seek the assistance of Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim diaspora ,” he said. “ SJB is ready to get together with other parties in the opposition and provide whatever support to the government in containing the pandemic,” he said.
