The Government has taken steps to distribute a relief package worth Rs. 5,000 to the flood victims and people living in the isolated areas, instead of  Rs. 5000 cash, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane said yesterday.

He informed Parliament that Divisional Secretariats in the respective areas would purchase the relief packs of essentials and distribute them among the people in the affected areas.
The Minister said Lanka Sathosa would provide the goods at a concessionary price lower than the market price.

He said the relief pack would include essentials such as 10 kgs of white rice, five kilos of red rice, three kilos of wheat flour, three kilos of potato and B-onions each, two kilos of dhall, one kilo of white and brown sugar each and 500 grams of sprats.

He said the relief pack would cost Rs. 6,079 and Rs. 5,960 in two different Super Market chains.
