The government was using the energy crisis to sell off the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) endangering the national security of the country, the National People’s Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath said yesterday.

He told Parliament that the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Bill was the extension of the same Bill introduced during the UNP government in 2001 and that bringing it by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) was against its principles.  The said Bill which would allow private sector participation in fuel import, storage and sale was putting the national security of the country in danger as the energy sector of a country was a decisive sector.

He said the SLPP was brought into power against the principles of the UNP government and added that bringing in the same bills was against the mandate and the principles of the SLPP.
