New Minister of Health Ramesh Pathirana has decided to change all heads of institutions that come under the health ministry, informed sources said yesterday.
Accordingly the Director Board of National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) is to be dissolved during the coming days. A new Chairman and board of Directors are to be appointed to the NMRA according to sources. A new head is to be appointed to the State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) while a few other high positions are also to be changed.
It was also reported that those who are said to be responsible for procuring inferior quality medicine, tender procedure violations and disparities will be removed from their posts. Minister Pathirana assumed duties at the Health Ministry recently after the cabinet reshuffle.
This development comes amidst reports that the SLPP is unhappy over the removal of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella from the post.
