Event organiser Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali who were arrested by the Fort Police on charges of violating quarantine regulations for organising a birthday party at a five star hotel in Colombo, have been released on bail yesterday.

They were arrested on Sunday night for organising a party when island-wide travel restrictions are being implemented.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the suspects were produced before the Hultsdorp Magistrate Court and released on Rs. 1 million personal bail.

The case would be taken before the Court again on August 27, 2021.
The spokesman said that at least 25 persons had attended the party.

Police have identified several persons while investigations are underway to identify others through the CCTV footages.  Meanwhile, DIG Rohana said that the Fort Police will take legal action against the management of the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo for allowing to host the birthday party on Sunday night when islandwide restrictions are presently in place.

He said statements will be recorded from the management and legal action will be taken if they had violated the
quarantine regulations.
