Youngest son of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Rohitha Rajapaksa yesterday said he had no intention of entering politics.

He said that he was presently involved in public campaigns, especially in the Kurunegala District only to fulfill the pledges made by his father to the people during the general election campaigns held last year.

Denying reports that he was preparing to contest for the Chief Ministerial seat of the Wayamba Province, Rohitha told Daily Mirror that he had no intention of taking to politics but was heavily involved in social projects for the benefit of the masses.

Rohitha said he was working with the people of Kurunegala as that was the electorate of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa but he did not do it with the intention of contesting in the future.

“My father won the General Election by getting the highest votes in the Kurunegala District. During the election campaigns, I was with him and now since he is the Prime Minister I have been entrusted with the responsibility of fulfilling the pledges he made to the people in that district. I am doing it as a goodwill gesture as someone has to do the work,” Rohitha said.

“While the Prime Minister is looking after the overall country, there is not much time he can dedicate to Kurunegala alone. Therefore I have been allocated to look into their grievances and address their issues,” he added.
Rohitha further said he was involved in those social projects as a goodwill gesture and not with the intention of gaining votes.
