The Committee appointed to look into the incidents that took place in Parliament chamber and its premises on April 21, 2021 met yesterday (28) and decided to submit its report next week to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhane.
The Committee met under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, State Minister Susil Premajayantha, Members of Parliament- Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Imtiaz Bakeer Marker, R. M. Ranjith Madduma Bandara and M.A. Sumanthiran were appointed as the committee members by the Hon. Speaker on 23rd April to recommend necessary steps to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
Accordingly, the Committee had discussed at length, the possible adverse effects of such incidents on the entire Parliament, suggesting short and long-term measures to prevent such incidents in the future. A full report in this regard would be submitted to the Speaker.
