India, Sri Lanka discuss additional steps for energy security

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said he, in his talks with Sri Lankan counterpart Prof. G.L. Peiris, discussed additional steps for Sri Lanka’s energy security.   


Citing talks productive, he tweeted that he discussed economic and investment initiatives that will strengthen Sri Lanka at this time. He said he exchanged views on the fisheries issue.   


 Prof. Peiris who is on a two-day official visit to India met with his Indian counterpart for bilateral talks at the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi yesterday, a statement from the Ministry said. India has already offered US$ 500 million credit line to purchase fuel for Sri Lanka.  The statement said the two dignitaries discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the bilateral relationship during the talks. Foreign Minister Peiris was joined by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda and senior officials of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Delhi and the Foreign Ministry.   


 Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay and senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs of India accompanied the External Affairs Minister.
