The Indian government has taken steps to issue a postal stamp to mark the advent in Sri Lanka of Indian estate workers 200 years ago.
Arrangements have been made by the Tamil Nadu BJP President K.Annamalai on the instructions of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Postal stamp would be issued by the Indian Ministry of Post. This step has been taken in recognition of the sacrifices they underwent and the troubles and tribulations faced by them during their struggle against different odds to gain their rights.
The Indian Ministry of Post has reviewed a host of documents relating to the migration of Tamils of Indian origin to Sri Lanka to issue the stamp with historical facets.
The event will be held on March 30, in New Delhi with the distinguished participation of President of the Bharatiya Janatha Party J.P. Nada who will hand over the first stamp to the Governor of the Eastern Province and President of Ceylon Workers Congress, Senthil Thondaman and to the President of Sri Lanka.
The launch of the stamp will be available from March 30 over the world’s largest postal network of 155,015 post offices in India.
