An interim injunction effective for 14 days, on functioning as president and as office-bearers in the executive committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association and preventing the office bearer election until appointing an interim committee was made by Moratuwa District Judge Daminda Ramanayake Weligodapitiya on Thursday.
The judge made this order after hearing a petition filed by Deputy Director of the Medical Research Institute Dr. T. W. M. A. Jayaruwan Bandara seeking a court order restraining the present office-bearers from functioning in their posts.
Petitioner stated that the term of office of the office-bearers had expired; preventing them from function in the respective post and that it was illegal to reject his nomination for the office-bearer election.
He stated that GMOA is planning to hold the office bearer election without appointing an interim committee as required under the constitution of the association.
President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya and Attorney at Law Sampath Wijewardene supported the petition.
