Assuring that there was no influence on the Director General of the National Zoological Gardens, Ishini Wickremesinghe to resign from her position, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister C. B. Ratnayake said yesterday she had resigned on her own accord.
He told parliament that however, he was not aware of internal matters which had led to her resignation.
The Minister said this in response to a question raised by SJB MP Mayantha Dissanayake, who said that rumours were circulating on social media that Ishini Wickremesinghe had resigned due to the influence of the President.
MP Dissanayake asked if there was any permit issued under G.N. Rajapaksa or someone who represents him to keep an elephant. The Minister responded saying that there is no such permit upto now, and assured will look into it and inform the House.
