MP Wimal Weerawansa said that the United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung is no longer sending out mischievous tweets, which he claimed was a part of a US-backed conspiracy to influence governance in Sri Lanka.
He made these comments addressing a forum in Uva Paranagama where he discussed his recently launched book titled ‘Nine: The Hidden Story’. The book authored by Weerawansa details an alleged regime change conspiracy backed by the US government, including a plot to assassinate former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the midst of the Aragalaya anti-government protests of 2022.
“Ms. Julie Chung doesn’t send naughty twitter messages anymore. She’s become very good,” Weerawansa said.
MP Weerawansa said that the US Ambassador was used to sending out a tweet even for the most trivial developments. “Usually, she would tweet even if someone sneezed. The tweet would say, such sneezing has grave consequences to national security,” Weerawasna said. “Now there have been many sneezes, but not a single tweet from the Ambassador,” he added.
Weerawansa alleged that a second phase of this conspiracy, which he named ‘Plan B’ was already in motion. “What are they saying now? They’re saying that the Aragalaya alone cannot establish power. The effort to crown Ranil Wickremesinge who was languishing in Parliament alone is fascinating,” he said.
Weerawansa said that since Wickremesinghe came into power the number of protest marches have decreased. “There used to be two or three marches per week. Since Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe came into power, there was just one protest march, and that too on a Sunday. Just look at how concerned they are for the inconvenience they cause the people,” Weerwansa said.
