Kalu Ganga and Attanagalu Oya water levels rising: DMC

Those who live by the banks of Kalu Ganga in Kalutara and Attanagalu Oya in Gampaha District have been kept on alert as the water levels of two rivers are rising, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said yesterday. 
It was reported that the Welipenna Interchange of the Southern Expressway was flooded hampering vehicle movement.


The motorists are advised to drive their vehicles at reduced speed to avoid any mishap during rainy weather.

Horana and Ingiriya areas in the Kalutara District received nearly 200 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, compelling the authorities to issue alerts for minor floods.  The highest rainfall of 264 mm was recorded from Mathugama.Halwathura received a rainfall of 155mm, Arakawila received a rainfall of 133 mm, Hegoda in Galle District received a rainfall of 142.5 mm, Divithura received 138 mm, Kalugala in Gampaha District received a rainfall of 115 mm, Melkopiwatte121mm,  Hanwella in Colombo District received a rainfall of 100.5 mm.
Warnings of landslide risks were issued in Galle, Kalutara and Ratnapura Districts.
