Kandy district has been declared as a zone endangered with possible landslides due to the inclement weather experienced at present. Assistant Director, District Disaster Management Centre Indika Ranaweera said 878 people in 204 houses were facing hardship.
He said Kandy four gravets, Gangawata Korala, Medadumbara, Pathadumbara, Patha Hewaheta, Harispattuwa and Tumpane divisions were the worst affected by torrential rain experienced at present. Kandy District Secretary Chandana Thennakoon has taken steps to provide relief to the people in the affected areas, while the army and the Kandy Municipal Council is cleaning and repairing the damaged houses.
