The Department of Meteorology has announced that the sun will shine directly over the Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu Districts in Sri Lanka today.
The sun is expected to reach its zenith, casting its rays directly over these districts. The nearest towns where this phenomenon will occur are Palavi in the Kilinochchi District and Chalai in the Mullaithivu District.
This solar alignment is anticipated to take place around 12.11 in the afternoon.
This occurrence is a result of the apparent southward movement of the sun, aligning with the latitudes of Sri Lanka from August 28th to September 7th this year.
Additionally, the Department has issued forecasts indicating an enhancement of showery conditions in the south western part of the island in the upcoming days. Several episodes of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several places in the Uva province, as well as in Ampara, Batticaloa, and Mullaithivu districts during the evening or night. The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
