The Mayor of the Kotte Municipal Council who received head injuries in an assault during an altercation over a traffic obstruction at Pitakotte junction was admitted to a private hospital.
Investigations revealed that the driver who parked the Mayor’s motorcar by the roadside left for another purpose. Meanwhile, a lorry driver who complained that the mayor’s car was obstructing the road had an altercation with him. The lorry driver had allegedly brought a club from a nearby house and assaulted the Mayor. A spokesman for the hospital said the Mayor received 13 sutures for his head injury.
The lorry driver and his helper were arrested by Mirihana Police. Police said the two suspects would be produced for an identification parade in the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court. IP Susantha Silva and IP Kularatne are conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Mirihana Police Manjula Thushara and SSP Chandana Liyanage.
