The Lake House building will be fully vested with the Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANCL) after taking it over from the Railway Department after the 99 year lease period ends shortly, Minister Bandula Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday.

Minister Gunawardena who was responding to an oral question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri, the Minister said it is appropriate to hand over the building and the land to ANCL.
The Minister said the land was given to late D. R. Wijewardena on a 99 year lease to put up the Lake House building and to start up ANCL which is the ancestral home of print media in Sri Lanka.

The Minister ruled out selling the Lake House Building to foreign investors. “However some lands in front of Lake House which belongs to the Urban Development Authority are available for investments,” he said.
