Landslide in Ella Devala in Ratnapura District Three persons reported missing

Three persons were reported missing after a landslide in Ella Devala in the Ratnapura District yesterday.  

Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Spokesman Pradeep Kodippily said police and the security forces started operations to find the missing persons.  


Also he said landslide warnings have been issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) in Ratnapura, Galle, Kalutara and Nuwara Eliya Districts.  


Meanwhile the DMC said a minor flood situation has occurred in Gampaha, Ratnapura and Kalutara districts as water levels of Kelani, Kalu, Gin rivers and Attanagalu Oya have risen. Several roads in Gampaha and Kalutara Districts were inundated according to DMC. Floods were reported from Nagalagam Street in Colombo, Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Homagama, Biyagama, Kolonnawa, Wattala and  Bulathsinhala areas.  
DMC said rescue teams, tri forces and equipment such as boats have been kept on alert to face any emergency situation.  


Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology said showery conditions will continue for a few more days. Showers exceeding 150mm are expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, Matara and Galle Districts in the coming days. Several areas have experienced rains over 200mm as of yesterday. Accordingly 247mm of rain was recorded in Eheliyagoda in Ratnapura District, 215mm from Ingiriya, 208mm from Katunayake, 193mm from Horana, 173mm from Minuwangoda, 156mm from Bandaragama and 155mm from Yakkala.
