The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association yesterday predicted that the price of a loaf of bread will exceed Rs.100 soon due to the current crisis.
Addressing a media briefing, the President of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association N.K Jayawardena said that such a situation has arisen due to the shortage of gas and the increase in commodity prices. Lack of fuel for transportation is also a serious problem for the bakery owners, he said.
“In the future, I think a loaf of bread will definitely increase to Rs. 100.” “If it sells for less than Rs. 100, it is not a loaf of bread of the specified weight,” he added.
