Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said lockdown is a government directive, and not meant to be enforced by armed forces patrolling the streets to arrest those who disregard the curfew.
In a Twitter message, he said it is a social responsibility that all Sri Lankan citizens take health measures to heart and adhere to them.
He said there would be zero progress without cooperation.
