Galle Magistrate Harshana Kekulawala yesterday ordered the Southern Naval Command in Magalle to furnish a comprehensive report to the Harbour Police regarding the loss of weapons that fell into the sea during the transfer of a stock of weapons that had been in the custody of the Galle Southern Naval Command to a ship sailing from Indonesia to Spain. The magistrate made this order after considering a report submitted by the Police.
A part of the stock of weapons had fallen into the sea when it was being transferred from another vessel into the ship on May 28. However the navy had recovered several weapons and equipment that fell into the sea.
Police told Court that they recorded the statement of a naval officer, a naval rating, and the engineer in charge of the vessel of the shipping agency, regarding the incident.
