The Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy showers exceeding 100 mm in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern Provinces in the coming days.

According to the department, rain and thunderstorms are also expected in the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern Provinces at various times, while other parts of the country are likely to experience similar weather during the evening or night.

“A low-pressure area is predicted to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. This system is expected to intensify into a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal within the next two days and may strengthen further as it moves toward Sri Lanka’s eastern coast,” it stated.

Meanwhile, the department also forecast misty conditions in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern Provinces during the mornings.

In light of the conditions, the public is urged to stay cautious and take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by localised strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
