A Sri Lankan man who tried to leave for Romania via Dubai with a forged Romanian visa on his passport was intercepted by the Immigration and Emigration officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday.
The immigration officials stationed at the BIA Arrival Terminal were referred to a suspicious looking visa by the agents at the FlyDubai airlines counter, when the passenger had come to check-in yesterday morning.
Immigration Department officials told the Daily Mirror, the 28-year-old passenger, a resident of Madhu had been then taken into for questioning by the immigration officials and learnt he was to take FlyDubai flight FZ 570 to Dubai and then proceed to Romania.
The suspect had told the immigration officials that he had paid Rs.300, 000 to an agent to get the forged visa done and pay a lot more when he would settle in Romania.
The suspect was handed over to the CID for further inquiries.
