Mahanayake Theras of the three chapters, in another memorandum have expressed serious concern about the government’s failure to implement the proposals forwarded to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other authorities on April 04 and 20 to address the current economic and political issues faced by the people.
Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chapter Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, Mahanayake of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya Ven. Dodampahala Sri Chandrasiri Thera, and Mahanayake of the Ramanna Nikaya Ven Makulewe Sri Wimalabhidhana Thera have forwarded the memorandum.
They have stated that it was sad that no action has been taken on the issues they had cited in their earlier letters to the President and the relevant authorities, despite the President having informed them that action was being taken according to the proposals.
“ We forwarded a series of proposals to resolve the burning socio economic and political issues in the country.
The President in reply to our letter informed that steps were being taken to implement them. However it is a matter of concern that the government or any parliamentarian have not been sensitive to the predicament of the people and have not taken any steps to resolve the prevailing crisis. It is a matter of serious concern that politicians are motivated by promoting party politics while enjoying privileges wasting public funds.
It is the duty of the 225 parliamentarians to join hands and resolve the prevailing crisis with concerted effort. “ The Mahanayake Thera’s further said. They have warned of serious reactions by the masses if the politicians continue to ignore their sufferings while enjoying perks and privileges at the expense of them.
