Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama was yesterday ordered to be remanded till June 8 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage in connection with the incidents that took place at MainaGoGama and GotaGoGama on May 9.

Producing Kahandagama before Court, the CID named him as the 26th suspect in the Galle Face attack case. Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama appearing for the CID alleged that several witnesses have given evidence to effect that Kahandagama had behaved in an aggressive manner, with the protesters who marched towards Galle Face Green on May 9. She raised objections to grant bail to the suspect in terms of section 14(1) (b) of the Bail Act.  However, Senior Counsel Jayantha Nanayakkara appearing for the suspect told the court that there was no evidence against his client that he inflicted physical harm to anyone. In reply, DSG Girihamaga alleged that the suspect had been involved in a crime with common intention after being a member of an unlawful assembly. Taking into consideration the facts, the Magistrate ordered to remand the suspect till June 8.
