Maldives Political Turmoil: Opposition Moves to Impeach Pro-China President

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP)  parliamentary group has agreed to submit an impeachment motion against  pro-China President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.   The latest development takes place in the archipelago  nation in the context of a diplomatic row with India, according to news  reports. 

The MDP has stated that they have the required number of signatures to move an impeachment motion against President.  


Clashes broke out in the Maldives’ Parliament on January 28  between pro-government MPs and Opposition lawmakers over differences  on the approval of four members of pro-China President Mohamed  Muizzu’s Cabinet.
