The Kegalle Divisional Crime Bureau has arrested a suspect in connection with hijacking a number of vehicles which were initially hired by him, after drugging drivers.
Police launched a probe in connection with the hijacking of a Wagon R vehicle worth more than Rs. 4 million.
The 33-year old suspect from Kiriella, Ratnapura was arrested on Sunday following investigations that revealed the suspect had booked vehicles online with chauffeurs for hire.
He robbed the vehicles after drugging the drivers with various substances mixed in beverages.
It was revealed that the suspect used the internet to sell the stolen vehicles at a cheap price.
He had stolen a car and a three-wheeler from Ja-ela and Seeduwa areas respectively and sold them in the same manner.
The Wagon R was also found by the police after it was sold to a person in Nivithigala, Ratnapura.
The suspect was handed over to the Mawanella Police.
